Why Blog?
They say No man is an island and there couldn’t be a better way of saying it, even more in our times. Thanks to rapid evolution in communication means and mediums, most notably the Internet, anyone with even half a message can participate and be heard.
In the past, people formed groups and localized interest circles, where information and messages proliferated and their acceptance were governed by an authority or an expert. However, the acceptance was based on certain ideologies that formed the base of these groups and anything paradoxical was looked with skepticism.
So participation wasn’t entirely democratic and people generally went with the flow, accepting what was status-quo. The odd men or women who went against the status quo, who were brave enough to oppose or challenge were often despised or termed abnormal.
Internet, the most prolific and democratic of communication mediums, has to a great extent alleviated this problem. People can participate across nations, free of prejudice, and the feeling of fearlessness (most likely as a result of feeling relatively anonymous).
Most notable and popular of these internet communication mediums is the Blog, which lets people dump their thoughts and broadcast it in the hope that some reader somewhere might connect with it, and set off a chain of messages and thoughts. Sometimes, these seemingly random thoughts touch a chord with millions and it can become a powerful propaganda tool.
But then, there are issues of privacy and security. And then there is Trolling; In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established community and intentionally tries to cause disruption, most often in the form of posting inflammatory, off-topic, or otherwise inappropriate messages.
Nonetheless, as a collective, we are inclined to come to better solutions faster by pooling in thoughts, and everyone has the opportunity of speaking their minds and being heard.
